Today’s Outfit: Faux Fur Vest

15 Dec

I can’t abide by real fur (no judgement, just my personal preference). But I do love pretty much anything reminiscent of animals in fashion – prints, fur, skins, and the like. So I made my first step into faux fur with this vest.  And, even though it’s fake  it is still remarkably warm and soft.  I can’t say much more (because the vest really speaks for itself) except this: if you haven’t yet tried some faux fur, be fearless and give it a shot.

To be honest, the stripes on this vest are entirely too symmetrical so I’m not certain what animal I’m supposed to be representing. But really, who cares? It’s meant to be fun. Aren’t we having fun?

Today’s Outfit: On the Fringe

24 Feb

Today, it’s all about pairing two completely different prints in shades of blue with a fab, fringy-drapy vest.  It’s rainy, yet warm(ish) today – a good day for a dress.  This tunic, while too short to wear bare-legged in the summer, is perfect with tights in the winter.  So I layered on a super-long draped vest with cool fringe that accents the unique print. What I love is that both the dress and the vest are harmonious in colors, but they don’t do a matchy-matchy-dance. My rule of thumb – it doesn’t have to ‘match’ as long as it ‘goes’.

Fashion Inspiration: Build Around a Vest

10 Nov

I came across this Richard Chai Love Cap Sleeve Draped Vest ($345) as I was poking around on Barneys.com. I was (don’t laugh) captivated. The color is neutral so it is begging to be swapped in and out of a variety of outfits (really, it’s begging). The neckline is so chic with the high collar back and v-neck front.  The draping at the hemline forms a V that points upward, adding to the illusion of a small waist. And, the seam runs diagonally down the tummy-another slimming detail. This vest can go a couple ways (and it should for what it costs). Here are two that I love, but you can come up with more, I’m sure.

All About Town

A great look for daytime, wear this look on a casual Friday or spending an afternoon with friends (swap out the pumps for flats if you’re literally running all about town).   Topped off with comfy jeans and a gorgeous carry-all tote, you’ll be subtly stealing the show, wherever you are.

A Little Burst of Color

Keep everything simple, streamlined and then, real ninja-like, sneak up on ’em with a bag that screams cheery playtime (really, it’s screaming).  A simple spandex/cotton dress is a perfect foundation layer, and the lace stockings work as an accessory. If you like, downplay the sexiness of the lace with boots that cover all but a just a tiny sliver of your legs.
