Fashion Fixers: 2 Ways to Waist

28 Oct

Fashion = illusion.  If you fake it, it will be so.  No waist? No problem. Let’s learn how to make one, k?

Herringbone ruffle blazer, Banana Republic, $175

First, the jacket.  A tailored blazer is the best-best-best way to create a waist. It should have 1-2 buttons, the right sleeve length, and end just above the hip. Try buying one size smaller and don’t bother buttoning it, to give you a really shapely silhouette. Get jackets in casual cotton, light weight wool, denim, and even silk and wear them with everything, for every occasion.

Melissa Masse, Knit Dress, $325

Next, focus on the smallest part of your body – just under the bra line.  You can do this a few ways. Try an empire waist, cinch a skinny belt over a tunic or boxy dress,  or wear a wrap style dress/top. Shown above is an empire waist dress in a sexy knit that skims the body, and kimono sleeves for relaxed elegance.
