Today’s Outfit: Pleasing Pleats

3 Oct

We’re talking about pleated pants here. Don’t be scared. It’s a deal breaker for most, myself included. We get thrown back into the worst of the 80′s and even then, pleats were a bad idea most of the time.  But, these pants work because they’re cropped, tapered, and have a wide, snug band sitting high up on my waist. Most importantly, I’m wearing them with heels which ensures a longer leg (and that’s always a lady’s goal).  Finally, I’ve tucked in my top to remind everyone that yes, above those pleats is a waist and I want you to see it.

Always double up scarves – burgundy from a street vendor, blue from Old Navy.

Today’s Outfit: Gray for a Gray Day

27 Oct

Raining in NYC and still hot.  I love this dress because (1) it has pockets and (2) it has zebras. Plus, I get to play with scarves since it’s got a wide neckline.

Dress by Orion, belt so old I can’t even remember, tights by JCrew, suede boots by Report, scarf by Nimli

These are nearly 5″ heels, but it’s mitigated by a 1″  platform.  I’m officially 5’7″. God bless a platform.

Today’s Outfit

26 Oct

I’m into cardigans at the moment and it’s probably inspired by this warm weather. I feel like I need something to cover up because it’s near the end of October, but I can’t wear a coat or blazer lest I melt.

Pants by The Limited, to by Gold Hawk, Cardigan by JCrew, Boots by Kenneth Cole.

Here’s a close up of the top. It’s actually a french blue silk camisole with a sheer silk shell. The neckline has this web of beading which I think is so pretty and delicate (not my typical aesthetic as I tend to go bolder). Gold Hawk is a line that shows a mix of delicate, lacy pieces with harder rock-star looks as well. Today, I just wanted something easy and no-fuss. This fit the need; perfect for an unseasonable 75-degree day.

Today’s Outfit: It’s still warm

25 Oct

It’s still warm in NY…like 70 degrees warm. So I compromised with Mother Nature – a summer dress with fall tights and booties. I call this my diner waitress dress because it has that 50′s style shape to it, a full-neck lapel, and pockets. Show me a dress with pockets and I’m sold.

Dress by Skunk Funk (spring 2008), tights by JCrew (Fall 2009) cardigan by JCrew (Fall 2009), booties by Rampage (Fall 2008).

These booties, made my Rampage, were so inexpensive and are going on their third season.  I have them in black too.
